Surfers Paradise

Surfers Paradise

So after our incredible visit to the Whitsunday Islands we were once more on the road heading south down the Queensland coast line. It was on this leg of the journey we finally found a theme song for the journey and several rounds of “We are Family” we played while we all sang along, off key of course.

Surfer Dudes

If you are ever in Australia you will notice that they love ginger, ginger is in everything and they make the best ginger beer in the world (in fact now Sarah’s drink of choice). So one our road trip we made a pit stop at the cheesy tourist stop “The Ginger Factory”. Here we all tasted everything ginger, stocked up on ginger beer and bought ginger gifts, oh we are such tourists.

Just south of Brisbane is Australia’s famous Gold Coast, famous for its incredible beaches, tourist facilities, world renowned surfing and of course the city of Surfer’s Paradise. So we made a point of checking into Australia’s version of Waikiki for a few nights, and got right into the surfy culture.

I'm the King of Surfers

It was here Laurence fulfilled a lifelong ambition to take surf lessons. So Laurence, Chad, Cayley and Sarah all signed up for two hours of surf lessons by a surf pro, guaranteeing to get you on your feet. So sure enough when they showed up for the class Laurence was by far the eldest student, but he jumped right in like the kid he is. The four of them had a great time learning to read the wave, turn, and paddle out to sea and of course stand on the board. It was a bit of a competition to see who would stand first and Laurence was the star pupil and up on his feet after only a few tries.

I was so amazing, there all jealous!!!

How does that little kid do it?

First one up on the board and the oldest

I'm really good at this!!!!

It was here at Surfers Paradise that Gerda and Sarah got to fulfil their wish to go paragliding in the land down under. So in tandem the two of them ventured up above the city skyline and toured the harbour under the gaze of a happy face parachute.

Up, Up and a way

I'm too hot for this!!!!

We all had lots of time to enjoy the wonderful beach culture and stroll along the world famous beach watching in awe the surfers doing their tricks out in the ocean. We took full advantage of the town and shopped, ate great Thai food and explored the famous city of Surfers paradise. From here we would catch a flight back to Sydney, the road trip was over.
