Nha Trang

View of Nha Trang

After catching a flight north of Saigon we arrived in the seaside city of Nha Trang. This city is famous for its incredible beach, warm weather, beautiful islands and diving. The main beach at Nha Trang is over 8 kms long of warm sand meeting the warm ocean of the pacific and lined with many large resorts catering to the sun seeking tourist. We enjoyed walking along the beach enjoying the warm weather and the coastlines of many islands off in the distance.

The city does have cultural sites as well since this was once the main centre of Cham people, a race that has long been moved from their homelands in central Vietnam. It is here we toured the 800 year old Po Nagar Cham Tower built with red bricks and still being used as a place of worship today. We also toured the Long Son Pagoda, a Buddhist temple with a large white Buddha on the hill overlooking the city and a large reclining Buddha above the main temple.

But the star of Nha Trang is the beach and beautiful blue waters. So we took a boat ride early in the morning and Laurence snorkelled along a natural reef, we visited a lobster farm and a small seaside fishing village surrounded by the distinctive blue fishing boats. The ocean has been the centre of the old Nha Trang and as it moves into being a world class beach holiday resort it is still the centre.
