Royal Hawaiian Palace
So for the last leg of our journey around the globe we decided to crash in a familiar holiday spot, where we could just relax and get some sun before heading back to our lives in Canada. So what better destination then the tropical island of Oahu and the famous beaches of Waikiki. As we have been here several other times, we did not do the typical tourist day trips, but rather just slowed down and got in some relaxation, sun tanning and just have one more last hurrah before heading home.

So our week consisted of slow mornings (mostly recouping from the night before) laying on the beach under coconut trees (when the weather permitted), strolling the streets of Waikiki and of course celebrating each night as we relived this fantastic year. We frequented our favourite bar and met up with friends from previous trips (completely coincidentally) and made many new ones. And got to share our year with many willing listeners, it was a great week to reflect on our journey and appreciate how very fortunate we are to have this experience.

So as we lay on the beach we relived the great journey, the amazing places we have discovered and the wonderful new friends we have made. And we all so prepared ourselves to returning home to the land of snow (something we have not seen for a year) and our lives back in Calgary. It has been a week of just “let go fun”, reminiscing the best year of our lives and anticipating the possibilities of the future.
